VIRTUS® Training – Keeping the Promise Alive
Has your VIRTUS® Certificate expired? These certificates are valid for four years.
Check the list below to confirm your status. If you are taking the Virtus online or took a class at a different parish, please make sure the parish office receives a copy of your certificate.
One key exception is if you have been reading your monthly VIRTUS® Online messages and kept your training current.

create safe environments and increase awareness.

VIRTUS® Classes
Protecting God's Children - Original VIRTUS® Class
This three-hour long training class is required for all new volunteers and paid staff who have never been trained before.
Immediately after the class, a certificate of completion will be provided (valid for four years).
You are also required to submit a copy of this certificate to the parish office as well as to the head of any ministry in which you volunteer.
After your class, you should register with VIRTUS® Online (see link below) as eventually you may be able to complete your recertification online.

Keeping the Promise Alive - Recertification VIRTUS® Class
This class is available to those who have taken the Protecting God’s Children in 2011 (certificate will expire on December 31, 2015).
This class lasts 1 1/2 hours at the end of which you will receive a certificate of completion (valid for four years).
You are also required to submit a copy to the parish office as well as to the head of any ministry in which you volunteer.
If you took the Protecting God’s Children training prior to 2011 and your certificate has expired,
you’ll need to retake Protecting God’s Children training in order to remain active in ministry.

Online Training Recertification Option
If you registered with VIRTUSOnline.org immediately following your Protecting God’s Children class, and you have kept up to date on all of your emailed on-line training bulletins, you may not be required to take a recertification class.
To find out if you qualify, please email Joan Vienna
Please include your name, the name of your parish and our region (which is San Pedro), and she will respond via email.
If you qualify, she will mail you a new certificate in which you’ll need to provide a copy to the Parish Office.

After you have taken the original Virtus® Class,
you should go to www.virtusonline.com to register.
By registering, you will be notified of all updates to the program
(including the availability of taking the Virtus Refresher Class online when available).

All paid staff as well as Parish Volunteers (age 18 or over) who work directly
with or around our youth are required to be fingerprinted.
